The ASE ProLiant/NetWare is focused on certifying advanced NetWare skills concerning the installation, configuration, and system tuning of the NetWare operating system on HP ProLiant servers. This certification is for Systems Engineering professionals who demonstrate, discuss, deploy, or service HP ProLiant Servers using the NetWare 5 operating system. Among the benefits of obtaining this certification, the candidate will be able to:

• configure NetWare server NLMs
• determine system capacity requirements for servers
• locate, install, and configure device drivers for HP x86 system architectures
• configure HP network controllers for NetWare
• configure HP RAID controllers for NetWare
• apply configuration tuning techniques to increase overall system performance

ASE ProLiant/NetWare candidates must meet prerequisites and pass HP exams for certification (see requirements below). In addition to these exams, ASE candidates must provide proof of operating system certification, in this case Novell CNE 5, that matches their ASE track. Once the candidate has successfully completed these requirements, the candidate must submit an application to the Americas HP Certified Professional program. It is strongly recommended that candidates take the HP instructor-led courses in preparation for the exams. Courses available are listed in the table below.

Steps to Becoming an ASE ProLiant/NetWare

Submit Application - In addition to the above, candidates must apply for this designation by submitting an on-line application.

Continuing Certification Requirements - Candidates may be required to complete Continuing Certification Requirements consisting of selected exams, training, or additional maintenance requirements as prescribed by HP.

HP reserves the right to change HP Certified Professional program requirements at any time without prior notification.

* The HP Certified Professional Program has received numerous questions regarding its strategy around NetWare 5 updates.

• Does HP plan to require existing NetWare AISs or ASEs to do a NetWare 5 update?
  Since Novell is requiring all CNEs to complete a NetWare 5 update, HP has chosen not to implement a separate continuing certification requirement for NetWare 5. However, those ASEs who lose their CNE certification due to a failure to complete Novell's continuing certification requirement will also lose their ASE (and potentially Master ASE) certifications since CNE is a prerequisite. At Novell's NetWare 5 update deadline, HP will review each NetWare ASE's status to ensure compliance with the Novell requirement.
• Does the HP Certified Professional Program require NetWare 5 Exams and CNE 5 certification as a prerequisite or will HP continue to accept NetWare 4 exams and CNE 4 Certification?
  Beginning August 31st of 2000, HP accepts only NetWare 5 exams and certifications for Novell prerequisites.
• Will my NetWare ASE certification be revoked if I do not complete the Novell required update to NetWare 5?
  Yes. However, if you meet the requirements for AIS ProLiant/NetWare 5, your level of accreditation will change from ASE to AIS. HP will require all NetWare ASEs to provide proof of NetWare 5 update at the close of Novell's continuing certification requirement deadline.
