Transition/Migration Information into the new HP CP program
Transition/Migration Information into the new HP CP program...what do I need to do?
HPCP program migration plans were placed on the North America HP Certified Professional website in March 2003. To determine your migration plan (if required), access the information located at: http://h10017.www1.hp.com/certification/na/migration.html
- What if there's no migration plan listed for my pre-merger certification title on the website? What does that mean?
- Migration plans were developed only for those certification titles where an action is required by an individual to maintain his/her certification. If there is no migration plan listed for your pre-merger title, this means there is no action required on your part.
- Many of the certification tracks are simply grandfathered into the new program and the individual will receive a new certificate and ID card. If this is the case, there will be no migration plan listed on the website.
- May I get started completing my migration requirements before I receive the personalized letter from the Program Office?
- Yes, you may begin completing the requirements identified on the website.
- The website provides all the details regarding migration action items.
As the integration of the pre-merger databases continues, plans are still in place to send individuals personalized letters regarding certification status, migration action items, and new certificates and ID cards where applicable.
ProLiant SMEs needed for Exam Review and Exam Development Workshops
- Qualified Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) are needed for participation in the ProLiant Accredited Integration Specialist (AIS) Exam Review Workshop and ProLiant Accredited Service Engineer Exam Development Workshop for ISS certification, part of the HP Certified Professional Program (HPCP). The AIS Exam Review Workshop will be held in Houston, TX. SMEs located outside the Houston area can still participate remotely by using Virtual Classroom. The ASE Item Development Workshop also will be held in Houston and requires local attendance.
- AIS Exam Review Workshop - August 18-21 (4 days)
- ASE Item Development Workshop (IDW) - August 25-29th (5 days)
- As a participant in the exam workshops, you will
- receive credit for this exam (thus, exempting you from having to take IT again).
- gain valuable experience by collaborating with other key professionals in the exam development process.
- contribute at the ground level in the development of ProLiant certification exams (thus, providing your input).
- We need your help! If you or someone you know would like to participate in the development any of these exams, let us know as soon as possible. If you have not participated in any exam development workshops before, please send an email to Karen.Petrini@hp.com indicating
- your current title.
- exams that interest you.
- brief professional biodata, if you have not participated before.
Note that qualified consultants and other ProLiant professionals (who are not HP employees) are welcome to participate.
Your biodata should include the organization you belong to, the type of work you do, and your pertinent background. Based on your qualifications and our need for representation from various regions, you will receive a confirmation notice for the requested workshops. Please feel free to forward this schedule to those whom you feel would be interested.
Note: HP regrets that we cannot offer to cover your travel and lodging costs in return for your participation in these workshops.
Announcement: HP CP support for Microsoft Windows 2003 MCSE certification
Two of the core Microsoft networking exams for the Microsoft Windows 2003 MCSE track are in beta at Microsoft as of mid-June, with two more going to beta by early July. The HP CP program will start the process of updating our tracks that reference MCSE pre-requisites with the addition of specific Windows 2003 exams and the Windows 2003 MCSE as these exams and this credential move into a "live" state. In the near future, you'll see the HP CP Program Office include notes in the Microsoft-focused certification tracks indicating our intent to support the updated Microsoft exams and track.
The steps to become an HP Certified Professional
Many candidates assume that they are certified after completing the exam(s) required for an HP Certified Professional certification. Testing is only part of the process. You must complete the entire certification process in order to be recognized in the HP Certified Professional program.
In addition to passing the required exams, the HP Certified Professional program requires all candidates to fill out an on-line application and fax their test results to our regional program office. This is a new process that was not required in the legacy HP certification programs. To be sure you are awarded the proper recognitions due to you, please follow the steps below to become an HP Certified Professional.
- Step 1: After accessing the North America certification site, review the available tracks and levels and choose an appropriate credential for you.
- Step 2: Review and complete the required prerequisites.
- Step 3: Review the training courses available to help you prepare for HP Certified Professional exams.
- Step 4: Attend appropriate training classes (training is not required for certification but is highly recommended).
- Step 5: Complete required exams at an authorized Prometric or Promissor testing center.
- Step 6: Complete an online application for each certification designation you're pursuing. The online application can be accessed by going to the HP Certified Professional website at http://www.hp.com/go/certification/na. On the left navigation bar, you will find a link under exam and training info, called "Apply for certification". Select the 'Apply for HPCP Certification' link.
- Step 7: Submit the online application.
- Step 8: Fax copies of passing exam scores and copies of other required prerequisite certificates (e.g.: Microsoft MCSE, Novell CNE, Red Hat RHCE, etc.) to the regional Program Office (281-514-6039).
- Step 9: In 4-6 weeks you'll receive a certificate and ID card from the Americas HP Certified Professional program.

IT Service Management training and ITIL certification
IT service management is rapidly gaining importance in an environment where IT costs need to be reduced or controlled to enhance return on investments. Through tighter alignment with business goals and strategies, IT can be viewed holistically as an integral part of the business, thereby improving its real and perceived value.
With companies like Procter and Gamble and Caterpillar adopting IT Infrastructure Libraries (ITIL) best practices for IT service management, IT is increasingly important for IT professionals and consultants to develop the skills and qualifications to implement IT service management. This requires a thorough understanding of specific ITIL processes, how they're related and how they impact the business.
- ITIL certification is a critical element for IT professionals wanting to advance their career in IT service management. The ITIL certification program consists of the following three areas:
- Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management.
- ITIL Practitioner in IT Service Management
- ITIL Manager in IT Service Management
Upon completion of the related courses and passing the exam, you will be awarded a certificate in IT service management from EXIN. EXIN is an industry-recognized ITIL examination institute based in the Netherlands.
HP offers full ITIL-based curricula in IT service management. If you're new to ITIL and would like to learn more, consider our ITIL Essentials Workshop (H9015S) or our online instructor-led Overview of IT Service Management (H3577I).
